Practice Equipment

White Group (Daily Practice)

This group is an integral part to the foundation of our team. Otter Basics 101 will be covered during these practice sessions. Swimmers will be taught all 4 competitive strokes, learn how to finish or turn in each stroke, along with being asked to dive from the starting block. Practices will combine technique and fun to ready swimmers for the next level of summer swimming. Daily practice attendance is encouraged! Team cheers at this level will begin to build a sense of belonging to the OV family. Swimmers at this level are expected to compete in dual meets and the championship meet that they qualify for.

Equipment:

  • Big Smiles
  • Goggles
  • Caps for hair longer than shoulder length
  • Towels - 1
  • Full, cold water bottle

Fins, kick-boards and pull buoys will be provided.

Red Group (Daily Practice, Dryland 2x/week)

As swimmers move within practice groups, the positive expectations and standards will remain the same throughout. Coachability will be a key ingredient to your success at this level. The Red practice group will represent our first Otter practice group that will not only be focusing on refining stroke technique but will also introduce training methods that will enhance competitive preparation. Proper practice and racing skills will be implemented and expected on a daily basis. Daily practice attendance is strongly encouraged to maximize practice efforts! Swimmers at this level are expected to compete in dual meets and the championship meet that they qualify for.

  • Plenty of Team Spirit
  • Goggles
  • Caps for hair longer than shoulder length
  • Towels (1 or 2)
  • Full, cold water bottle

Fins, kick-boards and pull buoys will be provided. You may bring your own equipment in a gear bag.

Black Group (Daily Practice, Dryland 2x/week)

For the Black group, coaches expect a positive attitude, the acquired and necessary racing skills for swimming, an intrinsic work ethic, and competitive meet performances. Swimmers at this level need to be ready to practice and compete on a daily basis. It is necessary that all swimmers arrive promptly and begin each day the Otter Way – eager to swim and wanting to improve. Team camaraderie and spirit will greatly enhance the work being done in the pool and allow the other practice groups to value their importance at OV. The Black group will focus more on the competitive aspect of the sport of swimming; aerobic endurance and race pace training will be implemented. Swimmers will train IM based along with focusing on prime stroke events and freestyle sprints. Dryland sessions will focus on conditioning and recovery exercises to enhance pool performance. Daily practice attendance is recommended by the coaches to maximize training planning and effects! Swimmers at this level are expected to compete in dual meets and the championship meet that they qualify for.
