Meet Job Descriptions
Below is a list of the descriptions of the various volunteer roles at home and away meets. We have provided guidance for those parents who may have young children that need to be supervised, and will not have another adult who can provide that supervision during the meet.
Announcer: Must arrive 20 minutes prior to meet start. Announces all events (diving and swimming) through to the end of the meet. Must be comfortable with public speaking. Home meets only.
Awards: This job begins about an hour after the meet begins. Volunteers label all award ribbons and sort ribbons by team. This job ends about 20-30 minutes after the meet ends. Home meets only. This is a good job for volunteers who need to keep watch over young children.
Diving Judge: This job requires the individual to watch and judge all divers. Requires attendance at Diving Judge Clinic. Home & Away Meets.
Finish Judge: This job requires the volunteers to observe all swim events and observe the finishes, and write down the places by lane. Works with volunteer from opposing team. Home & Away Meets. This job is NOT for volunteers who need to keep watch over young children.
Griller: This job requires the individual to run the grill at the snack bar for the duration of the meet or until the grilled items are sold out. Volunteer is able to watch their children swim in events, getting coverage if needed from another snack bar volunteer. Home meets only.
50/50 Raffle:This volunteer will sell raffle tickets throughout the meet, collecting money for sales. Volunteer must be comfortable "working the crowd." Home meets only. This is a good job for volunteers who need to keep watch over young children.
Round Up Swimmers: These volunteers will round up our 10 & Under swimmers in order to assure they are lined up in time for their events. Home & Away Meets.
Runner: This volunteer collects DQ and finish judge slips. Also does any running requested by the scoring table and volunteer coordinator. Home meets only.
Safety Marshal: This volunteer will monitor safety on deck for swimmers, coaches, and spectators. A checklist of responsibilities will be provided. Home meets only.
Scoring Table: These volunteers are required to be trained on the Meet Manager and Dolphin Timing Systems. They are there at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet and work the table throughout. Home meets only. This job is NOT for volunteers who need to keep watch over young children. Athletes are not allowed in the scoring tent.
Snack Bar: These volunteers help staff our snack bar. They set up, serve, collect money and clean up. Essential swim team fundraiser. Volunteer is able to watch their children swim in events, getting coverage if needed from another snack bar volunteer. Home meets only.
Stroke & Turn Judge: This volunteer must attend the Stroke & Turn Clinic during Time Trials and be trained by a PIAA official. They will observe all swim events and note any stroke disqualifications. Home & Away Meets. This job is NOT for volunteers who need to keep watch over young children.
Timers: These volunteers help time all swim events at meets. They utilize manual and digital timers and record back-up times. Home & Away Meets. This job is NOT for volunteers who need to keep watch over young children.
